Corporate Member Spotlight: Special Olympics Arizona

Today, we're thrilled to spotlight a long-time corporate partner that's committed to making its athletes powerful ambassadors for all people and all abilities!

Who is Special Olympics Arizona?

GET Phoenix at SOAZ's 2023 Summer Games

Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) creates "a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability."

At its heart, SOAZ empowers its athletes by focusing on their abilities rather than limitations. They offer training opportunities and competitions all year long, most recently holding its Summer Games with over 1,300 athletes spanning track and field, powerlifting, and volleyball. Stay tuned for their upcoming State Fall Games in October for swimming, bocce, and more over two action-packed days.

With the first competition taking place in 1975 with just 100 athletes and 20 volunteers, SOAZ rapidly grew and now boasts over 21,000 athletes and nearly 25,000 volunteers annually. Athletes, their families, community volunteers, sponsors, and spectators alike enjoy 21 sports across four exhilarating statewide competitions and nearly 700 regional competitions!

Off the court, field, track, etc. SOAZ engages its dedicated audience through educational and wellness programs, online esports competitions, early childhood play programs to build core developmental skills, and an athlete leadership program to build tomorrow's community leaders.

SOAZ + GET Phoenix = Long-lasting Community Impact

Committed to serving our growing community of young professionals eager to connect, learn, and give back, GET Phoenix's partnership with SOAZ began thanks to its very own Amanda Metcalf, SOAZ's Senior Director of Marketing and Communications.

Actively involved with GET Phoenix since 2018, overseeing its Events Committee through 2022, Amanda shared:

"I’ve loved watching our partnership with GET Phoenix blossom during my tenure at Special Olympics Arizona. Initially, it was all about giving our staff, myself included, opportunities for professional growth and networking. Now, it’s grown into so much more. As a proud corporate partner, SOAZ has become a chosen charity for multiple 'GET To Give' events, supporting the involvement of GET Phoenix members volunteering at our competitions. This participation has been a stepping stone for many, leading some to join our Young Professionals' Committee and help us dream up and execute major events and fundraisers. The collaboration between SOAZ and GET Phoenix continues to strengthen, driven by our shared commitment to growth and community service. I’m excited to see where this partnership will head next and the ongoing positive impact we’ll create together in our communities."
